Practical training, good earnings and a quick start in the industry

Practical training, good earnings and a quick start in the industry. The engineering sector offers no shortage of fascinating employee stories, and the developing industry offers a wide variety of job opportunities in various professions. Despite this, companies in the sector are always looking for new people.

GOOD EARNINGS AND CAREER OPPORTUNITITES

Average income in the sector is approximately €2,710 a month and rising. The shortage of professionals in the sector increases competition, and employers compete with each other for good professionals.

A MODERN WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The old, dusty image many have of the engineering sector is well established, but in reality, the sector is populated with modern working environments and the latest technology. The industry is developing rapidly, and now is an excellent time to jump on board and become part of the sector’s development.

A QUICK START IN THE INDUSTRY

Fierce competition for good professionals is normal in the engineering sector. The Engineering Academy promotes cooperation between educational institutions and companies and offers prospective employees a quick way into the industry.

Labour market training

Labour market training is primarily aimed at unemployed people and people under threat of becoming unemployed who have completed their compulsory education.

Vocational labour market training is free for students, and during it, you receive the same benefits as you would if you were unemployed. In some situations, you can receive increased unemployment benefit and compensation for your expenses on participation days. For more information about benefits, contact the TE Office.

You can apply for training on the TE services website using the electronic form on the training page. Find out more about open labour market training application opportunities. Training organised by TAKK Vocational School and Tampere Vocational College Tredu can be found by searching for “TAKK” or “Tredu”.

Further information about vocational labour market training can be found on TE services’ website.

Continuous admission

Continuous admission allows people to apply for programmes, or parts of programmes, that result in a vocational upper secondary qualification, a further vocational qualification or a specialist vocational qualification. You can apply to a programme and start the programme flexibly throughout the year as long as the programme has been opened to applications.

The continuous admission process is open to everyone. However, programmes have basic educational requirements, which may be, for example, a basic education certificate or a previous general upper secondary education certificate or vocational upper secondary certificate. Applicants need to meet the specific requirements of a programme in order to apply for it. Additionally, your Finnish language skills need to be sufficient to be able to complete the programme. Each educational institution sets its own selection criteria.

The continuous admission process is also used to fill spots left open during joint applications over the summer.

Apprenticeship

Apprenticeship training allows you to complete a programme in upper secondary vocational education and training and gain a qualification by taking the entire programme or a part of it as apprenticeship training. An apprentice can have a permanent or fixed-term position or be an office holder. Entrepreneurs can also study through an apprenticeship.

The studies can be performed entirely through the apprenticeship training, or you can, for example, transfer from self-motivated study to an apprenticeship once you find an appropriate position during your studies.

Joint applications

The joint application system is a national application process that invites applications each year in February and March. Application results are published in June. Student admissions follow national criteria.

You can also apply through the joint application system even if you have not yet completed a qualification after your basic education (vocational qualification, general upper secondary education certificate, higher education degree) in Finland or abroad. In the joint application system, you always apply using your basic education certificate.

Apply through the continuous admission process if you have completed a qualification following your basic education.
