What is the Engineering Academy?

We support the availability of skilled engineering industry personnel by providing graduating young people, people changing careers and personnel hired from abroad with further training. We offer further training packages that are relevant to the industry. We organise the training by combining the teaching skills and learning environments of the area’s vocational schools and companies.

Finland has a reputation for being a country of innovation – and it is – but innovation alone isn’t enough. Raw materials can only be turned into successful products in the hands of skilled professionals. We have engineering traditions reaching far back, as well as the skills that go with them. These traditions are the basis of our prosperity, which is why they need to be cherished and maintained. The Engineering Academy helps engineering companies find new skilled employees and train their personnel in making success stories happen. We encourage young people to take up interesting careers that lead to fantastic job opportunities and we reshape preconceptions to match the reality of the industry.

Partners

In cooperation with its partners, the Engineering Academy ensures the hiring process and training go smoothly. To develop your personnel’s skills, we work with you to map out the skills you need and put together a training package based on those needs. The Engineering Academy service is produced in cooperation by TAKK, Tredu and companies in the HR sector. In addition, we are in constant dialogue with companies in the industry to promote its attractiveness and offer companies relevant training packages.

The future is in skilled hands

The engineering sector offers no shortage of fascinating employee stories, and the developing industry also offers a wide variety of job opportunities in interesting professions. The image people have of the sector is often out of date. Digitalisation has revolutionised the engineering sector just as it has other sectors, and today engineering offers modern opportunities to challenge yourself professionally and develop your skills.

Increased automation has not removed the need for skilled professionals. Instead, the nature of the work has changed. From the perspective of the engineering sector, more than anything, digitalisation means new ways of doing things cost-effectively and energy-efficiently while also improving wellbeing at work. These days, routine and often ergonomically straining tasks can be performed by robots, but the programmer still needs to understand how the machine works. Robots don’t innovate or produce development ideas, which means people are still the most important resource in the developing and ever-more-efficient engineering workshop. That is why the sector needs new skilled professionals.

The rapidly changing sector offers good earnings and career opportunities, a modern work environment that makes use of the newest technologies and practical training that lets people start their careers quickly. However, the sector suffers from a labour shortage, and companies are always looking for new people – there are far more retiring from the industry than there are earning relevant qualifications. The Engineering Academy’s mission is to alleviate this labour shortage by bringing professionals and companies together.
